ECOSYSTEM gathers 9 partners from 5 countries, including research centres, universities and SMEs experts in food, agriculture and policy. Together, they lead the way towards a more circular, bio-based manufacturing model for replacing fossil-based plastic by bio-based and biodegradable solutions.

  • Spain

    Funditec (Fundación Tecnológica Advantx) is an applied research centre focused on fostering business competitiveness and social prosperity through technological innovations accross different sectors. They develop innovate projects at their own laboratory facilities located in Madrid. They currently participate in 12 EU projects, two as coordinator. FUNDITEC has three strategic research areas: Advanced Materials, AgriFood and Digital Transformation.

    ROLE: coordination, Biopolyesters, monomers biosynthesis & active ingredients.

    CSIC (Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas) is the largest public research institution in Spain. Affiliated to the Ministry of Science and Innovation, its main mission is the implementation of the Spanish System for Science, Technology and Innovation. From CSIC, 2 RTO institutes participate in the project: The Institute of Material Sciences of Madrid (ICMM), which is currently involved in 6 EU projects and 5 Pathfinder initiatives serving as the coordinator for 2 of them; and The Petrochemical and Catalysis Institute (ICP) currently engaged in 20 EU projects.

    KNEIA (Kneia SL) is a company specialized in communicating science and valorising research results. Based on a long expertise in Collaborative Programmes, its activities include development and implementing innovation business plans for SMEs, D&C strategies and market research analysis, supporting clustering and stakeholder mapping at EU and international level. KNEIA is currently involved in 16 EU projects.

    ROLE: communication, dissemination, exploitation and portfolio activities.

    AGRICOLA2000 (Agricola 2000 Società Coop. Per Azioni ) is a SME leader in experimentations of new products and techniques for agriculture. They support agricultural products and companies in the realization of their objectives. They act as a subject of innovation for companies and both public and private research institutes which operate in the agribusiness and in the field of consulting. ROLE: Biomass provider and validation of mulching films.

  • Denmark

    DTI (Teknologisk Institut) is a leading research and technology institute and one of the most prestigious institutes in Scandinavia. Their Functional Materials Department will be part of the project providing great experience in functional and printed electronics. DTI has capabilities and facilities to perform experimentation from the raw materials to the full-scale prototyping both at the laboratory and pilot-plat scales.

    ROLE: biobased soil sensors.

    AIMPLAS (Asociación de Investigación de Materiales Plásticos y Conexas) is an RTO specialized in plastic-related technologies and materials. With over 30 years of experience and a team of 250 professionals they cover a wide number of research areas such as recycling, biopolymers, and sustainable packaging. AIMPALS are keen on engaging in numerous R&D projects to enhance innovation and improve environmental performance. Notably, its Packaging Cluster develops reusable, biodegradable, and biobased packaging solutions.

  • Italy

    UNIFE (Università degli Studi di Ferrara)  is one of the oldest universities in the world. The Department of Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Agricultural Sciences (DOCPAS) which involves 63 teaching members and 11 technical employees, will be leading UNIFE participation in the project. It also hosts 3 scientists of the National Research Council, (ISOF institute).

  • Cyprus

    MBP (Mountain Berries Pitsilia NV LTD) is a farming company focused on the sustainable production of berries. Many innovations have been tested in the farm and with collaborative EU partners, such as biostimulants and smart farming techniques to reduce the effect of climate change, while increasing yields and fruit qualitative attributes.

    ROLE: Biomass provider and berries packaging shelf-life testing.

  • Switzerland

    TEMAS (TEMAS Solutions GMBH) is a company specialised in all the areas of assessment in the SSbD framework such as risk assessment and environmental footprint. They are currently involved in 11 EU projects, implementing the SSbD in multiple sectors of the industry (medical, textile, food, and aerospace). TEMAS has a unique expertise in the sector addressing challenges regarding regulation and sustainability along the life cycle of nano-enabled products.
